Representatives of major South Korean scientific and technologic universities came to l’X on Thursday, November 16th, 2017. Five universities forming a new grouping of higher education institutions were represented: Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) and Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST). During their visit at École Polytechnique, they aimed at discovering École Polytechnique educational system and methods and discussing opportunities of collaboration between the science and technology grouping and l’X. École Polytechnique was the stage of the Top European universities tour of the Korean universities.

The delegation met with Dominique Rossin, Vice-Provost for Academic Affairs, who made a general presentation of École Polytechnique, emphasizing on the special features of the programs offered at l’X: a multidisciplinary approach, the importance of sports, the internationalization process of the university, the development of e-learning… The delegation also visited the Drahi X – Novation Center with Matthieu Somekh, Director for Entrepreneurship and Innovation who gave an overview of the innovation strategy and presented projects developed by start-ups incubated in the Center.

KAIST is the main South Korean partner of l’X, as shown with the three agreements signed in 2016 between the two institutions. At the research level, the Laboratory of Physics of Interfaces and Thin Films (LPICM) is the lab the most involved in the collaboration with South Korea. Its Deputy Director Yvan Bonnassieux and two PhD students attended the meeting with the delegation.

After the visit of a delegation from the Chinese Ministry of Education, École Polytechnique was once again chosen as a world reference for its quality of education and research by a grouping of universities.
