> What do all these abreviations mean ?
The nickname of the school is "X". There are two explanations about this name:
1) On the military insignia of the school, two cannons are represented forming an X
2) At the beginning of the school, the young students enterring at Ecole polytechnique had no information about it. They were saying they were entering "the unknown". In mathematics, the unknown is frequently written "X". That is why this nickname has been given to the Ecole Polytechnique.
