Inaugurated on April 27th, 2016 on the occasion of its first international conference, the Energy and Prosperity Chair aims to support academic research excellence in order to offer new tools for financing the energy transition, a major challenge of the 21st century. The Chair brings together seven sponsors: ADEME, Agence Française de Développement, Air Liquide, Caisse des Dépôts Group, Mirova, SNCF and Schneider Electric, as well as three academic partners: École Normale Supérieure, École Polytechnique and ENSAE ParisTech.
The Expert Committee’s for the National Debate on Ecological Transition work has revealed several major issues related to the implementation of the energy transition. Nowadays we have several trajectories of transition that are distinguished by the evolution of energy demand level, the penetration of new uses (behaviors and technologies), as well as the nature of the proposed energy mix and the speed of implementation of these changes by 2050.
Financing the energy transition
The purpose of this Chair is to support the academic programs and research on energy transition on various innovative financing channels (financial engineering and control), as well as tools to assess performance. This research is based on both microeconomic and macroeconomic energy transition issues. The aim is also to explore the conditions for banks and insurance companies to participate more fully in its funding. In the context of scarce public funds, researchers from the Chair reveal innovative financing models in the service of governments and companies concerned about their inclusion in the regulatory framework, with a direct impact on many areas (energy efficiency, infrastructure, sustainable mobility, technology transfer...)
The funds dedicated to the Energy and Prosperity Chair enable the mobilization of research teams and support the work of doctoral and post-doctoral students on the topics of the Chair. They also fund new teaching models, visiting professors’ mobility and the organization of a cycle of international conferences. For sponsors and academic partners, the development of students’ and doctors’ recruitment able to provide solutions for financing the energy transition is indeed a major challenge and the goal of the Energy and Prosperity Chair.
