Women and science
Vilboroth Sambath, Cambodian, 21, comes from the Institute of Technology of Cambodia
Vilboroth comes from Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. Her experience in the countryside of France is really nice and multicultural, even though it was a bit disconcerting at the beginning! She decided to enter l’X because a friend of hers studied there and was very enthusiast about this institution. She would like to specialize in renewable energies, a challenge to face in Cambodia. She is glad to have the opportunity to live in France, the country she has always been fascinated about. At l’X, she would like to take part in the X-Cultures association and also the one that takes care of cats.
Irina Nikulina, Russian, 20, comes from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology
Irina is enrolled in a double degree program: after four years of study, she will get the diploma of l’X and the one of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. She loves the French culture and the French cuisine, even snails! After three months of intensive learning of French, her level in the language of Molière is very good. She chose to enter l’X in order to pursue general studies but she is already very interested in telecommunications. She doesn’t know yet where she would like to work later but she knows for sure that she wants to travel a lot and discover the world! At l’X, she would like to be a cheerleader to represent thus École Polytechnique!
Valérie Raspaud, IFLS Director
“The IFLS was created in 1992 and has been working in partnership with École Polytechnique for 20 years. I have been at the head of the school for 10 years now. The whole town is involved in the welcoming of the international students, through associations, meetings, activities… Students are in total immersion within their families but also with the inhabitants of Villeneuve-sur-Lot who all are really happy to receive them during four months. The community life is well developed here and it’s very confortable for the students to live here, before discovering the Parisian life! Host families take their role very seriously. Moreover, the region is so fascinating to discover; there are plenty of activities and visits to do such as the numerous vineyards, the picturesque villages, but also the city of Bordeaux, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. When the students arrived in Villeneuve, they were surprised by the little size of the town compared to their home cities, but in the course of time, they realized how lucky they were to discover this part of France!"
