L’X signs a research cooperation agreement with Mitacs Canada

On February 19th, Mitacs Canada and École Polytechnique signed a cooperation agreement which aims at encouraging research internships in Canadian companies and universities.

Mitacs is a Canadian national network gathering companies, universities and local governments in order to develop Research and Development and innovative projects in Canada. Mitacs Globalink Research Internship program is designed select undergraduate students from 9 priority countries, including France, for a research internship supervised by one of the 66 Canadian member universities.

L’X is the first French Science and Technology University to sign an agreement with Mitacs. Thanks to this program, École Polytechnique students will be able to apply to one of the 1000 12-week research internships within the Mitacs network and benefit from financial aid and mentoring during their stay in Canada. These exchanges will strengthen bilateral research collaborations between Canada and France and encourage mobility of faculty members from both countries.

During the signature ceremony, Rachel Maguer, Vice President for Marketing and International Relations of École Polytechnique, highlighted the importance of this new collaboration: “As a leading French institution combining high-level research, academics and innovation at the forefront of science and technology, École Polytechnique knows that one of the best ways we can support young talents is by equipping them with the tools that will help them succeed in today’s innovation-driven world.”

Eric Bosco, Chief Business Development and Partnerships Officer at Mitacs, emphasized on the benefit of this agreement for students seeking an international research experience: “We at Mitacs are delighted to partner with École Polytechnique to further research development. This agreement provides students with the opportunity to advance their professional development while simultaneously escalating international research exchange.”

This new partnership is part a larger strategy to develop cooperation between Canada and l’X. With the opening of new programs entirely taught in English (Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Technology), Canada has becoming an even more attractive destination for l’X students. In 2018, the historical collaboration with Polytechnique Montréal has been strengthened and news academic partnerships were developed with Toronto University and Dalhousie University (Halifax). In 2019-2020 already 13 Bachelor students from l’X will study one semester in Canada. École Polytechnique will also welcome students from these universities as part of the International Academic Exchange Program (applications open).

"It is with great pleasure that École Polytechnique signs this ambitious partnership agreement with Mitacs Canada. We are proud to be part of a brand new co-funding opportunity that will boost and strengthen research mobility between École Polytechnique and Canadian universities, concluded Rachel Maguer. It also paves the way to new perspectives in 2019, in order to extend this collaboration to other fields.
