In 2020, the health crisis disrupted the organization of teaching at École Polytechnique, accelerating its transformation and revealing the spirit of innovation, agility and transversality that was deployed collectively to ensure continuity of education. This collective experience has been supported by existing infrastructures and teams at the service of pedagogical organizations, enabling the implementation of distance and hybrid modalities. In the years to come, École Polytechnique's training programs will maintain their excellence, while being at the forefront of pedagogical innovation and opening up to a wider audience worldwide, with an objective to constantly enhancing learning experiences and meeting the challenges of tomorrow's professions.
THE E-LEARNING CENTER IS DEDICATED TO ONLINE TEACHING AND RESOLUTELY TURNED TOWARDS INNOVATION.
In addition to its traditional on-campus courses, École Polytechnique offers distance learning modules using computers, tablets, etc. This teaching, called e-learning, is not just a tool but above all a new way of teaching and learning.
École Polytechnique's pedagogical assistance team helps teachers create their courses using a wide range of techniques and tools. Modules can be "synchronous" when the teacher and students work together live during a videoconference session, a webinar, or by telephone. They can be "asynchronous" when there is a delay between the action and the reaction of the student and the teacher. For example, between a question asked in a discussion forum and the answer, or between the recording of a lecture and the moment it is viewed.
The combination of synchronous and asynchronous modes allows for a different approach such as the flipped classroom.
These courses allow students to study at their own pace without time constraints or the need to travel. However, this method requires regular work from the student, as well as motivation and organization.
The actions of the team are focused on the creation and animation of a community of teachers in which we promote the exchange of knowledge around online, blended and digital quality learning.
From training to feedback in workshops, we contribute to teaching excellence and seek to improve student success through exemplary instructional design. Our thinking focuses on inclusive learning, fostering student engagement with a principle of "anyone, anywhere, anytime."
These modes of instruction provide new learning options and opportunities for students with different learning styles, for those who need flexibility in their schedules, and for those who do not live in close proximity to one another.
Our actions get inspired by best practice publications, quality benchmarking, community-led conferences, empirical and practice-based research, and expert advice, among others.
