The finals of the École polytechnique Bachelor program's specch contest took place on February 13, 2024, with freedom as the theme and a question: "Are we really free?"

Open to 2nd year students, the speech contest sees second year students compete against each other in a speech in English, within a time limit and on a given theme.

The competition underlines the open, multi-disciplinary nature of the École polytechnique Bachelor's program, which focuses on mathematics and the basic sciences, with three options for specialization in the 2nd and 3rd years: Mathematics & Physics, Mathematics & Computer Science, Mathematics & Economics.

In 3rd year, students have the opportunity to study abroad for the fall semester at one of École Polytechnique's partner universities, such as the University of Toronto, UC Berkeley, EPFL, KAIST, King's College London or The University of Melbourne. In the spring, students complete an eight-week research internship, at the end of which they write their Bachelor's thesis.

Since the program was launched, enrolment has risen from 71 to 440, with two-thirds of students being international and 35% women, reaching the target of 160 students for the class of 2023.

The Bachelor's degree is now recognized worldwide (80% of graduates go on to a leading

a top-ranking university worldwide), and an agreement has been signed for 2022 with Columbia University to create a joint Bachelor X/Master Columbia degree.

The speech contest is one of the personal development courses offered to 2nd year students. After three months of preparation and coaching by eloquence experts, the 40 students, class BX25, enrolled went through two elimination rounds and eight reached the final.

Clémence Moullet took first prize, followed by Fanny Scherrer in 2nd place and Flore Reboud (3rd).

For the second year running, an audience prize was awarded to Octave Berbigier.

The Speech Contest is supported by AX, École polytechnique ‘s alumni association.
