École Polytechnique well represented and well placed at the 2025 International Mathematics Competition
Eleven Cycle Ingénieur Polytechnicien and Bachelor's students from École Polytechnique took part in the International Mathematics Competition 2025, which took place from July 28 to August 3 in Bulgaria, at the initiative of the Department of Mathematics. As in previous editions, École Polytechnique students achieved excellent results both individually and as a team.

Researcher Sylvain Mailler delivered a lecture at EPN in Ecuador
“Air quality modeling in South America: context and Franco–South American collaborations” was at the center of the lecture given by Sylvain Mailler, researcher (ENPC ) at the Dynamic Meteorology Laboratory of École Polytechnique, during his visit to the National Polytechnic School of Quito this summer. Renowned for its high level of scientific excellence, the institution is an international partner of École Polytechnique in Ecuador.

Three Bachelor's students honored with the 2025 Maryam Mirzakhani Junior Prize
Clémence Moullet, Ioana Popescu, and Anca Sfia, three students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science program at École Polytechnique, were honored with the 2025 Maryam Mirzakhani Junior Prize from the Jacques Hadamard Mathematics Foundation. This prize recognizes outstanding initial research work in mathematics.

Chilean researcher Sergio Rica from partner university PUC visits l’X
As part of a joint research project with Christophe Josserand, Deputy Director of the Hydrodynamics Laboratory (LadHyX) and lecturer at the École Polytechnique and the CNRS, École Polytechnique welcomed a visit from Sergio Rica, a researcher from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). This international mobility was supported by the Erasmus+ program was granted for its application to foster collaborations with partner universities in Chile.

The International Physics Olympiad (IphO) in France and at École Polytechnique for the first time ever
From July 18 to 21, École Polytechnique hosted the International Physics Olympiad, the first time this event has been held in France since its inception in 1967. The event was an acknowledgement of École Polytechnique's eminent role in physics research and transmission. The event was also an opportunity to highlight the role played by women in key advancements of this scientific discipline.

L’X reaffirms its partnership with the University of Pisa
École Polytechnique and the University of Pisa have renewed their double degree agreement, which enables students of the Ingenieur Polytechnicien program to specialize in physics at the prestigious partner institution in Italy during their 4th year of studies. Upon completing their studies for the Master of Physics degree at the University of Pisa, students will be awarded a diploma from the Italian partner university, in addition to their diploma in engineering sciences of the École Polytechnique.

Third edition of Operation CIEDS at École Polytechnique
For the third consecutive year, École Polytechnique hosted Opération CIEDS, an annual event dedicated to research and innovation in defense and security. The event, organized by the Center for Defense and Security Studies (CIEDS), in which many of the École Polytechnique's research laboratories are involved, is supported by the Ministry of the Armed Forces and the Defense Innovation Agency.

Polymath Summer Camp 2025: Two weeks of introduction to research in mathematics for Bachelor's students
About 15 Bachelor's students got together under the guidance of Guillaume Dubach, Monge professor at École Polytechnique and member of the Laurent Schwartz Mathematics Center (CMLS), for two weeks of intro to math research in a summery, relaxed setting. This initiative was supported by École Polytechnique's “Pedagogy Dynamics” fund, financed by École Polytechnique Foundation.

Alain Aspect, elected to the French Academy
Alain Aspect, a former student of the ENS-Cachan (now ENS-Paris-Saclay), professor at the Institut d'optique-université Paris-Saclay, professor at École polytechnique, and emeritus research director at the CNRS, was elected to the French Academy on June 26, 2025. He thus becomes the second French Nobel Prize winner in physics to be elected to the French Academy after Louis de Broglie, who won the Nobel Prize in 1929 and was elected in 1944.
