Louis-Bernard Guyton Morveau died there two hundred years in 1816. In 1789, Arthur Young, British agronomist traveling in France, described Guyton "first chemist of France" and one of the most famous in Europe. Although since forgotten, this exhibition aims to publicize him again.

Guyton and École polytechnique

Guyton is one of the commissioners appointed by the National Convention to design the Ecole Polytechnique. The bases were, according to him "the aggrandizement of the field of exact sciences and observation, the development of the arts, the proliferation of reports that they have with national prosperity, and above the guarantee so important that it would be allowed in public services only educated and proven men . " The main interest of the school is to "bring science that should help each other, and to put , as it were in the same hands, all instruments that can be used to push the limits of our knowledge."

Guyton is one of the first teachers of Chemistry of Polytechnique, with Berthollet and Fourcroy. Appointed for the director Monge interim who is gone in Egypt, he replaces him definitly in the turn of the year 1799-1800, to the militarization of the School in July 1804. As a director for more than 5 years he defended the school against its opponents.
