École Polytechnique has been granted observer status as a Research and Independent Non-Governmental Organization (RINGO) at COP27, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, which took place from 6 to 18 November 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. In this respect, École Polytechnique was represented by a delegation including Patricia Crifo, professor at École Polytechnique and researcher at the Center for Research in Economics and Statistics (CREST*), Johanne Trotin, research assistant at CREST, as well as Ekaterina Ghosh and Natalia Pietruszewska, students in the Master of Science & Technology in Economics for Smart Cities and Climate Policies. This course at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris is directed by Patricia Crifo, also head of the delegation.

Thanks to the observer status, RINGOs can be invited to be part of audience of certain debates and negotiations, and to attend or even speak at events organised by the official delegations. This was for instance the case for the roundtable "Cities and universities. An alliance for sustainable development" to which Patricia Crifo was invited as a speaker. Organised by the AIMF** and the City Diplomacy Lab at Columbia Global Centers | Paris, this discussion was held on 8 November.
