On 26 and 27 September 2024, L’X Interdisciplinary Laboratory (LINX) hosted a conference on "Science and fiction". Discover the links between these two concepts.
Discovered in the late 1970s, archaea are unicellular organisms with characteristics of both bacteria and more complex organisms. Once cast aside, advances in molecular biology and genomics have brought them back into the spotlight. In the laboratories of École Polytechnique, several research teams are exploring the scientific potential of these microorganisms.
Organized by École Polytechnique, this year’s edition of the U7+ Student Forum focused on “AI in Higher Education” and how to maximize its benefits and mitigate its risks. The participating students shared their recommendations with the presidents of the U7+ Alliance to contribute to shaping the best use of AI in Higher Education.

The Cambridge Analytica scandal has shown that targeting technologies on online platforms (Google, Facebook, Tik Tok...) go beyond the simple sale of objects or services to invest in the realm of information. The work of Oana Goga, a researcher at École Polytechnique's Computer science laboratory (LIX), studies the impact of these technologies on privacy, security and the manipulation of public opinion. They have fuelled reflection on the European Union's Digital Services Act and are being continued today as part of an ERC Starting Grants fellowship.
A consortium led by the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, of which X is a founding member, and HEC Paris has won a €70 million call for IA Cluster projects. This collective success will have numerous spin-offs for the X laboratories involved in the Hi! PARIS Interdisciplinary Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis.
Every year, the European Research Council supports ground-breaking research and scientific excellence. In 2024, Charles Baroud, from École Polytechnique’s Hydrodynamics Laboratory (LadHyX), Olivier Gossner, from the Centre for Research in Economics and Statistics (CREST) and Joris van der Hoeven from École Polytechnique’s Computer Laboratory each receive an ERC fellowship in the Advanced Grants category.

Its aim is to explore and define new methods for designing Artificial Intelligence systems that are ethical, robust, secure, frugal, and explainable.

The first class of the specialized Master's program "Renewable Energies: Technology and Entrepreneurship" (ETRE), launched by École Polytechnique and Institut National Polytechnique Félix Houphouët-Boigny in September 2021 to train executives specialized in renewable energy in Ivory Coast, successfully completed the curriculum. The graduation ceremony took place at the French embassy in Abidjan, on 1st March 2024, in the presence of the French Ambassador to Côte d'Ivoire Jean-Christophe Belliard.
