Delegates of the partner institutions composing the network of excellence in engineering sciences of the French-speaking community RESCIF (Réseau d'excellence des sciences de l'ingénieur de la francophonie), including l'X, met at École Polytechnique from October 12 to 14, 2023, to discuss the various projects of their international collaboration and decide on future actions.

The assessment of this year's entrepreneurship summer school was one of the major topics on the agenda, and a broader discussion regarding the place granted to this topic within the network ensued. Organized by the University Saint Joseph in Beirut, the entrepreneurship summer school took place in July 2023 and brought together over fifty students from the alliance’s member institutions. It covered a wide range of entrepreneurial topics, from the conception of a start-up idea, market analysis, and financing strategies to business expansion. Students who participated in the summer school expressed their enthusiasm for the initiative and highly appreciated this learning opportunity.

During their meeting, the delegates also discussed further cooperation between Africa and Europe as part of the Horizon Europe program, which the European Commission offers to support international research and innovation projects.

The meeting also provided the opportunity to take stock of the progress made by the working group dedicated to the training program for school referents run by ENS Lyon. Focused on methods and practices for assessing student skills, this program is tailored for school referents and will run for one year from November 2023

Finally, the participants exchanged views on other topics, such as thematic workshops on water, energy, health, nutrition, urban issues, entrepreneurship, big data, and ways to increase the activity within the joint laboratories.

The following delegates' meeting will be held at the École Nationale Supérieure Polytechnique Yaoundé in Cameroon from April 18 to 19, 2024, in conjunction with a scientific symposium organized on the same date.

A French-speaking network of excellence for innovation and development

Founded in 2010, the Network of Excellence in Engineering Sciences of the French-speaking Community RESCIF comprises universities from thirteen countries in Africa, America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

The seventeen technological partner universities cooperate on different long-term projects to address significant challenges in emerging and developing countries.

By training young engineers in the latest technologies and research to foster sustainable development, the partners focus their international collaboration on crucial issues such as water, energy, nutrition, urban planning, and big data.

Since the summer of 2023, the presidency and management of RESCIF’S General Secretariat is held by École Supérieure Polytechnique Dakar for two years.
