L’X reinforces Cooperation with the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute

On 22 September 2025, a delegation from the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" (KPI), led by Anatolii Melnychenko, Rector of KPI, and Andrii Sysholin, Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Relations, visited École Polytechnique. The delegation met with Laura Chaubard, President of École Polytechnique, Kees Van Der Beek, Vice-Provost for Research, and Gaëlle Le Goff, Director of International Affairs, to reaffirm their shared commitment to deepening collaboration and advancing joint academic and scientific initiatives.
École Polytechnique’s Erasmus+ project, designed to support international mobility with the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, recently received approval and funding from the European Commission. This funding will directly support the new and ongoing initiatives between the two institutions.
The visit concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between École Polytechnique and KPI, formalizing their dedication to strengthening collaboration and expanding joint research and academic projects. This meeting built on a previous visit by Rector Melnychenko in April 2025, as well as the ongoing scientific collaboration between four KPI researchers and El Mahdi El Mhamdi, a researcher at École Polytechnique’s Center for Applied Mathematics (CMAP).
Founded in 1898, the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Eastern Europe. Among the existing ties between the two institutions is a joint research focus on Artificial Intelligence. Between February and April 2025, four researchers from KPI worked at CMAP on a collaborative project with El Mahdi El Mhamdi, who also co-chairs École Polytechnique’s Master of Science & Technology program in Data Science and Machine Learning.
Beyond advancing joint research projects, the new MoU will also facilitate the development of mobility opportunities, short-term internships for students and faculty, and professional development programs.
