Polymath Summer Camp 2025: Two weeks of introduction to research in mathematics for Bachelor's students

It's a bit like a club for budding mathematicians. Around fifteen students in their final year of the Bachelor of Science program (class BX26) gathered from June 16 to 27 under the guidance of Guillaume Dubach, Monge professor at École Polytechnique and member of the Laurent Schwartz Mathematics Center (CMLS*), for a Summer Camp introducing mathematical research through exploration and play.
Held in the shade of a large blue cedar tree on École Polytechnique’s campus, this Polymath Summer Camp offered participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and discover different and more advanced mathematics than the official curriculum in an informal and relaxed setting.
The program includes Master Classes on various topics in contemporary mathematics taught by experts in different fields, including a Master Class on the applications of random matrices to the study of neural networks, group work, writing short mathematical texts, training in oral presentation, mathematical games, and a science-themed film club.
The initiative, led by Guillaume Dubach, received support from École Polytechnique's “Pedagogy Dynamics” fund, which aims to encourage educational innovation by supporting teachers' initiatives.
This fund, financed thanks to the generosity of École Polytechnique donors as part of the “Serving Science” campaign, is deployed throughout the year with support from the educational engineers at the School's Teaching and Learning Center for implementation or techno-pedagogical reflection.
