Leiden Ranking: École Polytechnique is the 1st French institution
In the CWTS Leiden Ranking 2015 on the scientific impact of universities, École Polytechnique is ranked 66th worldwide and is the first French institution. L’X gains eleven seats on a national level and more than a hundred on an international level in comparison with last year.
Since 2007, the CWTS Research Center (Center for Science and Technology Studies) at Leiden University in the Netherlands lists the 750 best universities in terms of international scientific publications. It publishes this ranking based exclusively on bibliometric indicators on an annual basis.
This ranking is based on the analysis of the Thomson Reuters bibliographic database Web of Science from 2010 to 2013. Two aspects are taken into consideration: the impact of publications and the number of collaborations.
In terms of "impact" of publications, a category relying on citation analysis of scientific publications, l'X is ranked 66th worldwide. Five American universities topped this category: the MIT, followed by Harvard, Stanford, UC Berkeley and Princeton. École Polytechnique is the first French institution of the ranking (positionned 66th) followed by Université Paris-Descartes (72nd), Université Pierre et Marie Curie (94th), Université Paris-Sud (103rd) and Université Paris-Diderot (105th). L'X is also ranked 3rd nationally for its relations with industry.
L'X greatly improved in comparison with 2014, gaining eleven seats at the national level (it was ranked in the 12th position nationally last year). On an international level, École Polytechnique was ranked 171st last year against 66th this year, thus gaining 105 seats.
This growth shows the influence and quality of scientific publications of École Polytechnique Research Center.
