Alain Aspect, winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on quantum entanglement, was elected to the French Academy on June 26, 2025.

He thus becomes the second French Nobel Prize winner in Physics to be elected to the French Academy after Louis de Broglie, winner of the 1929 Nobel Prize, elected in 1944, and considered one of the fathers of quantum physics for having generalized Einstein's wave-particle duality for light to all matter.

A former student of the ENS-Cachan (now ENS-Paris-Saclay), professor at the Institut d'optique-université Paris-Saclay, professor at École Polytechnique, and emeritus research director at the CNRS, Alain Aspect is a member of the French Academy of Sciences and of numerous foreign scientific societies. He is a recipient of the CNRS Gold Medal.

He was elected to the Académie française in the first round, to the seat of the French playwright, novelist and poet, René de Obaldia.
