Charles Roques-Carmes, (X2013) is one of the 30 promising young scientists highlighted by the 30 under 30 ranking of Forbes’ North American edition.

Aged 28, he is studying in the United States at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).  He is currently a post-doctoral student at the Electronics Laboratory of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he obtained his PhD in 2022 after completing a Master's degree in electrical and computer engineering.

His research focuses on the design of nanostructures in which the properties of light are radically altered. This could lead to more sensitive X-ray detectors and could result in low-dose X-ray CT scanners that reduce the risk of radiation and allow cancer and other diseases to be detected at a much earlier stage.

At École Polytechnique, Charles Roques-Carmes was vice-president in charge of relations with companies of the student association Cabinet Start-Up for the promotion of entrepreneurship within the school. In this capacity, he helped organize the second edition of the Polytechnique Startup Weekend as well as the first École Polytechnique Entrepreneurship Event, the Workshop, in May 2015 which gathered 50 start-ups.
