International Talents at l’X: Ten students awarded Excellence Scholarships
Among the laureates of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs' Eiffel 2025 Excellence Scholarship Program are ten international students studying at l'X.
Hailing from Brazil, Vietnam, Mexico, Singapore, India, and Cambodia, they reflect a wide cultural diversity and demonstrate the breadth of backgrounds among École Polytechnique students. Seven laureates are studying in the Ingénieur Polytechnicien program, while two other laureates are pursuing their studies in École Polytechnique’s Master of Science & Technology programs.
Originally from Singapore, See Min Lim is enrolled in a double degree program between the National University of Singapore (NUS) and École Polytechnique. “Receiving the Eiffel Scholarship, alongside my admission to the double degree program, is a wonderful recognition of my commitment and efforts,” she says.
Currently in her second year of the Ingénieur Polytechnicien program, See Min Lim values “the demanding and comprehensive curriculum in mathematics, quantum physics, and quantum technologies, which aligns with [her] professional ambition to pursue a career in quantum research.”
Since joining the campus, See Min Lim has had the opportunity to experience École Polytechnique’s “dynamic community and its sport section structure,” which have allowed her to “feel fully integrated and also discover French society.”
Brimming with sporting, social, and cultural activities, student life at l'X stands out for its wide network of diverse student associations offering international students countless opportunities to explore life in France beyond the classroom. Today, 45% of École Polytechnique’s students are international, representing over 90 nationalities on campus. The faculty is equally diverse, with 41% of professors coming from abroad, making École Polytechnique one of the most internationalized higher education institutions in France.
Born in Brazil, in the hinterland of Bahia, Gabriel Carneiro Bomfim studied at the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA) before joining l’X. “Studying in France on a scholarship is a tremendous honor,” states this first-year engineering student.
Recalling that he has “always studied hard since [his] childhood,” Gabriel Carneiro Bomfim says the Eiffel scholarship represents a distinction that “motivates [him] to redouble efforts and live up to the investment made in [him]—to multiply it and give back to society.”
The Eiffel scholarship is “a recognition of many years of effort and a symbol of a strong friendship with France” for Gabriel Carneiro Bomfim, who identifies with the philosophy of École Polytechnique, “guided by the ideal of the common good and rooted in a rationalist tradition.”
It was therefore “the quest for excellence, the wealth of opportunities” and the fact that he “felt in tune with the values upheld by École Polytechnique” that prompted him to pursue his studies at this institution in France.
A scholarship program designed to support outstanding international candidates
Initiated by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Eiffel scholarship program is designed to support French higher education institutions to attract particularly promising foreign students to their master's and doctoral degree programs.
The excellence of candidates, as demonstrated by their previous academic record, is one of the main selection criteria.
