L’X and the Polytechnic University of Milan strengthen their partnership

Convinced of the substantial value their double degree in mathematics and physics has provided for students at both institutions since its launch in 2011, École Polytechnique and the Polytechnic of Milan renewed the agreement for another five years. What’s more, in response to the request from the students, the double-degree program has been extended to the Faculty of Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan, enabling students to also specialize in this field, which accounts considerably for the Italian institution’s excellent reputation.

Reinforcing their cooperation, École Polytechnique and its longstanding partner, the prestigious Italian engineering school Polytechnic University of Milan, renewed their double-degree agreement on April 11, 2024. This agreement enables students to complete their studies at both establishments and earn, as part of the double-diploma program, an engineering degree from the École Polytechnique and a degree di “Corso di Laurea Magistrale” from the Polytechnic University of Milan.

Founded in 1863, Polytechnic University of Milan represents one of Italy's most renowned scientific and technical universities, as demonstrated by the QS 2024 ranking , in which the school ranks # 1 in Italy. Its teaching and research focus on three areas: engineering, architecture, and design.

Jean-Loup Lemoine (X20), a student of the Ingénieur polytechnicien program who decided to aim for the double degree and pursue his 4th-year studies at the Polytechnic University of Milan, chose the Master’s degree in « Energy Engineering » to further specialize in this field. He explains that his choice was motivated by the fact that this Master’s program “remains quite general while offering a wide range of courses, therefore leaving many possibilities regarding future careers”.

Among the classes at the Italian partner engineering School, Jean-Loup Lemoine particularly appreciates the “Energy conversion” course as it “provides a scientific and concrete vision of the operations of plants using thermodynamic cycles to convert energy”, as well as the “Energy and change modeling and scenarios” course, which he describes as very inspiring. It is precisely in the field of renewable energies that Jean-Loup Lemoine would like to work after graduation.

Since its launch in 2011, the double-degree program has been a constant success with students from both institutions, particularly students from l’X, sixteen of whom have chosen to continue their fourth year at the Polytechnique University of Milan.
