L’X launches a Franco-Mexican double degree program with ITAM

École Polytechnique and the prestigious Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) strengthen their international collaboration by launching a new double degree program. This initiative combines Bachelor’s studies at ITAM with Master’s studies at l’X, offering students new opportunities for international mobility. Renowned for its excellence in research and teaching, ITAM is committed to advancing higher education as a driving force for Mexico's social and economic development.

On June 9, 2026, the partners signed the agreement formalizing the combined bachelor's and master's degree program they had been developing over the past few months. The double degree program offers eligible students a structured pathway to earn both a Bachelor's degree from ITAM and a Master of Science and Technology (MSc&T) degree from École Polytechnique by studying at the two partner institutions in Mexico and France.

Strengthening Franco-Mexican collaboration in higher education

Working alongside the French Embassy - which leads Franco-Mexican academic and scientific cooperation in partnership with the Secretariat of Public Education and the new Ministry of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation (Secretaría de Ciencia, Humanidades, Tecnología e Innovación) - École Polytechnique is committed to expanding its cooperation with Mexican partners. Notably, it is developing new dual degree programs, such as the one established with ITAM.

To be eligible for the new double degree program, students must have completed at least 80% of their undergraduate coursework in specific Bachelor's programs at ITAM: Artificial Intelligence Engineering, Engineering and Computer Science, Data Science, Industrial Engineering and Intelligent Systems, Mechatronics and Intelligent Robotics, or Business Engineering. Among the criteria that will weigh in the selection of up to four students to qualify for the joint program are academic excellence and relevant extracurricular or work experience related to their field.

Similar to École Polytechnique not only in size, the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM) stands out for its reputation as one of the top universities in Mexico and Latin America. Renowned for its excellence in natural sciences, technology, and the social sciences, ITAM is committed to making higher education a driving force for Mexico’s social and economic development. 

The institution’s mission—to provide a comprehensive education that trains professionals to seek and promote greater justice, freedom, and prosperity for all citizens—is also reflected in its motto. ITAM plays a central role in educating Mexico’s leading elites, particularly within public administration. Formalizing their existing ties, l’X and ITAM established a formal Student Exchange Agreement in 2023.
