L’X signs MoU with the Tandon School of Engineering at New York University
École Polytechnique and the Tandon School of Engineering at New York University (NYU) are formalizing and deepening their collaboration through a framework agreement, which will facilitate future exchanges and joint projects at multiple levels. Signed on February 25, 2026, this memorandum of understanding aims to establish, first and foremost, a scientific internship program, offering students from both institutions the opportunity to gain international research experience in the partner’s laboratories, in the United States or in France.
The new Memorandum of Understanding will facilitate the communication of research internship positions and streamline the application process for École Polytechnique’s students seeking to conduct a scientific internship in one of NYU’s laboratories as part of their 3rd year studies in the Ingénieur Polytechnicien program. At the end of March, seven students from École Polytechnique students will head to New York, where they will complete their third-year scientific internships in six different NYU laboratories for four to five months.
Numerous scientific collaborations already exist between researchers from l’X and NYU, particularly in applied mathematics, and it is not rare to meet researchers at NYU who have previously worked or studied at l’X. Among them, Nizar Touzi today holds the Finance and Risk Engineering Department Chair at the Tandon School of Engineering. Having served as Professor of applied mathematics and head of the financial mathematics group at École Polytechnique from 2006 to 2023, he witnessed the academic excellence of the institution's students. He now regularly hosts interns in the RiskEcon® Lab for Decision Metrics, of which he serves as a Co-Principal Investigator, and which is located at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. Matthieu Blanke (X2017) has conducted his postdoctoral research in AI focused on Deep learning for climate at NYU’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences.
Besides, École Polytechnique will host two NYU students as part of its international talent research program in June 2026.
NYU – A prestigious university in the heart of New York
Founded in 1831, the University of New York is one of the largest private, not-for-profit universities in the United States and comprises fifteen schools, colleges, and divisions spread across six campuses throughout Manhattan.
NYU’s reputation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is built in particular on the theoretical excellence of the Courant Institute, considered one of the world’s leading centres for applied mathematics, and the Tandon School of Engineering. Emphasizing the mathematical foundations of AI, the Courant Institute School of Mathematics, Computing, and Data Science (CIMS) conducts cutting-edge research in partial differential equations (PDEs), probability, and scientific computing. Its faculty includes renowned scientists such as Yann LeCun.
The Center for Cybersecurity (CCS) of the Tandon School of Engineering is a top-tier U.S. institution for hardware and network security. Furthermore, NYU’s Tandon School ranks since 2018 consistently among the top 25-35 U.S. engineering programs.
