L’X and the City of Paris in the fight against climate change
On April 17, 2019, École Polytechnique and the City of Paris entered into a partnership to support the city’s Climate Plan. The purpose of this collaboration is to conduct an economic evaluation of the policies and measures implemented in pursuit of the objectives of the Climate Plan.
Cities across the globe will have to reinvent themselves in the face of climate change and its effects, which are already being felt today. Paris, a leading city in this matter, is fully committed to the transition. The Paris Climate Plan reached a milestone in 2018, setting new ambitious goals to move toward a carbon-neutral Paris that uses 100% renewable energy by 2050.
The partnership between the City of Paris and École Polytechnique will enlist the efforts of members of the l’X Economics Department, to help shed light on a wide range of urban challenges and sustainable development issues.
This collaboration will evaluate perspectives offered by digital technology, look at new issues for infrastructure and smart cities, and anticipate major threats facing metropolitan areas. The research will rely on the cooperation of other institutions specializing in the subject, as well as a network of French and international researchers in econometrics, environmental economics, health, labor and responsible finance. This agreement will also help facilitate direct contact between partners in academia and government institutions.
