One year after the publication of École Polytechnique’s Climate Plan and its commitment to put sustainable development at the heart of its fundamental missions of education, research and innovation, the realization of its ten objectives is well under way.
The start-ups included in the 2023 Next40 /FrenchTech 120 lists were unveiled on February 19th. Ten of tte 40 Next 40 start-ups were created or co-founded by École polytechnique alumni. One out of five French unicorns - start-ups valued at more than $1 billion - also originated from the X entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem.
The Engineering for Health (E4H) Interdisciplinary Center of Institut Polytechnique de Paris, of which École polytechnique is a founding member, is opening a new creative and collaborative space dedicated to bioengineering projects’ prototyping.
Roland Lescure (X87), the French Minister in charge of Industry, came to meet École Polytechnique’s students and start-ups of its ecosystem of entrepreneurship and innovation supported by its incubator, the Drahi X-Novation Center. The 2023 edition of the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas, the world's largest tech exhibition, took place from January 5 to 8 with a smaller delegation of French start-ups, including three young companies supported by the Drahi-X Novation Center, the incubator of the École Polytechnique, as well as Valeo's R&D center, which has been working on safer, cleaner, smarter mobility for several years.
Charles Roques-Carmes is a Polytechnique engineer and is currently a postdoctoral associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Electronics Research Laboratory, where he received his Ph.D. in 2022 after completing a Master's degree in electrical and computer engineering. He is one of the 30 young scientists under the age of 30 honored by the North American edition of Forbes magazine.
The Saint Barbara's Day ceremony, held on December 2nd, brought together the X20 and X21 classes and gave rise to a speech by the new Director General of École Polytechnique, Laura Chaubard.
École Polytechnique has been awarded the Trophées de l'achat d'innovation (Innovation Procurement Awards) created by the French State Procurement Department for a building management project that optimizes "heating, ventilation and air conditioning" consumption thanks to artificial intelligence. Christophe Josserand, CNRS researcher and professor at École Polytechnique, and Qiang Du, Fu Foundation Professor of Applied Mathematics at Columbia University, spent three months as visiting professors at the respective other institution in the United States and France. As they crossed paths at École Polytechnique this autumn, they agreed to tell us about their visiting professorships and experience at the partner institutions.
The researchers receive the François Frenkiel Award from the American Physical Society for their work at the Hydrodynamics Laboratory on the modelling of active drops moving in a fluid.
The French Prime Minister, Élisabeth Borne (X81), closed the event organized by École Polytechnique to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the admission of women to the School. The event brought together many alumni and representatives of the Polytechnic community as well as 50 high school female students who aspire to pursue scientific studies.
As part of her third year in École Polytechnique’s Bachelor of Science program, Mariam Gedenidze currently studies as an exchange student at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. She is one of the first students to benefit from the new partnership agreement École Polytechnique and NTU signed to facilitate study exchanges for undergraduate students of the two prestigious institutions.
