L’X hosts a delegation of American Universities administrators

As part of the Fulbright FIEA program, a delegation of administrators from fourteen American universities visited École Polytechnique on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. This visit was part of a tour to discover French higher education. It also gave the delegation the opportunity to meet two Fulbright scholarship recipients who are currently studying at École Polytechnique.

Created in the United States in 1946 to support cultural and educational exchanges between countries and thus contribute to lasting peace, the Fulbright Program includes a highly selective, merit-based scholarship system. Jointly managed by bilateral commissions, US embassies, and partner organizations, the Fulbright Program enables recipients from participating countries to study in the United States, while American recipients can pursue their studies in the partner country concerned. Two Fulbright scholarship laureates are currently studying at École Polytechnique.

Beyond scholarships, Fulbright is also committed to strengthening exchanges between professionals at the management and administrative levels of higher education institutions in the United States and respective partner countries. The dedicated program, the Fulbright International Education Administrators Program (FIEA), is organized by the Fulbright commissions of the respective countries. Organized by the Fulbright Commission France, a delegation of administrators from fourteen American institutions participating in the Fulbright FIEA program visited École Polytechnique on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

During their visit to École Polytechnique, the participants also explored the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, learning about its interdisciplinary research centres, and its founding member institutions. The visit featured sessions highlighting École Polytechnique’s commitment to equal opportunity and the international mobility programs available to students and faculty to foster a dialogue on these two key priorities.

Two laureates of the Fulbright scholarship currently enrolled at l’X shared their academic journey and experiences with the visiting delegation.

Fiona O’Brien, a 2024 Fulbright scholar, is currently in her second year of École Polytechnique’s Master of Science & Technology program, specializing in the Economics of Smart Cities and Climate Policy

After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering at Yale University and gaining initial professional experience as a climate and sustainability consultant, Fiona decided to continue her studies in France to specialize in urban sustainability. “I could not have embarked on this journey without Fulbright—financially, administratively, and in terms of community support,” she reflects, adding that she will be “eternally grateful to the Fulbright program for making this experience possible.”

With enthusiasm, she highlights having “learned so much - both about urban sustainability and about life—through pursuing [her] master’s at École Polytechnique.”

Chloé Antoine, PhD candidate in economics at École Polytechnique within the Center for Research in Economics and Statistics (CREST*), is the second Fulbright scholar to greet the delegation of American university administrators during their visit.

Supported by her Fulbright mobility grant, Chloé Antoine will spend six months conducting research at Harvard University starting in January 2026. She explains that “this stay will allow [her] to advance [her] work on the environmental consequences of agricultural trade liberalization by joining a multidisciplinary initiative focused on biodiversity.” Already “very excited to learn from the expertise of the Harvard researchers involved in this initiative, in both economics and ecology”, Chloé Antoine is also confident that this international mobility will provide an opportunity to build new academic and scientific collaborations.
