Chairs in Computer Science

> Internet of everything
The Chair is an international Academic and Research Program dedicated to the Internet of Everything (IoE).  With more than 50 billion connected devices by 2020, the Internet of Everything opens a new era for the Internet and implies major strategic challenges in terms of growth, competitiveness and employment.
The « Internet of Everything » Program will encompass three main pillars: Education, Research and User Experience.
It will contribute to:
-Integrate in the curriculum of École Polytechnique students a degree of excellence on the state of the art of the information and communication technologies, through guest lectures by Cisco experts as well as equipment and software being made available by Cisco.
-Reinforce in the laboratories of the school, and research activities relating to the network as applied to multiple disciplines. The cross curriculum nature of academic and research at École Polytechnique will also enable to enhance the knowledge on the social and business impact of such technologies. The results of such research works will be widely spread internationally.
-Favor daily usage of the latest innovations in IoE so that future graduates may endorse the best technologies in their future careers and professors may apply them in their pedagogical activities.
The École Polytechnique Foundation brings to the Program its experience in both industrial and international relations and supports the management of the Program.
The Chair is associated with the international Masters program, in “Advanced Communication Networks”, jointly in partnership with Telecom-ParisTech.
Holder: Thomas Clausen, Professor at École Polytechnique and researcher in the IT Laboratory (LIX)
Sponsors: Cisco
Academic partners: École Polytechnique
Partners to the Chair agreement: The École Polytechnique Foundation, École Polytechnique, Cisco

> Complex Systems Engineering
Since 2003, the Chair of Complex Systems Engineering has been an integral part of the scientific partnership between Thales and École Polytechnique. The Chair is currently steering a set of activities in training, research and knowledge dissemination related to the design and control of complex, software-dominant systems (such as embedded systems and information systems).
The Chair is associated with the Master's program in the Design and Management of Complex Information Systems (COnception et MAnagement des Systèmes Informatiques Complexe - COMASIC), coordinated by École Polytechnique, jointly with ENSTA and Télécom ParisTech, and operated together with the University of Paris Sud, CentraleSupélec, the University of Evry and CEA INSTN, within the Université Paris-Saclay.
Holder: Eric Goubault, Professor at École Polytechnique,  Computer Science Laboratory of École Polytechnique (LIX)
Sponsors: Thales, DCNS, Dassault Aviation
Academic partners: ENSTA and TELECOM ParisTech
Additional partner: General Directorate of Armaments
Partners to the Chair agreement: The École Polytechnique Foundation and École Polytechnique

> Optimization and Sustainable Development
The Chair of Optimization and Sustainable Development is based on a simple premise: many questions related to sustainable development may be modeled using optimization software. The objective of the research program is to develop, integrate and standardize techniques from operational research, stochastic programming, mathematical programming and computer science to work effectively on multi-objective stochastic optimization.
Holder: Léo Liberti, Professor at École Polytechnique and researcher in the IT Laboratory (LIX).
Sponsor: Microsoft France
Academic partner: CNRS
Partners to the Chair agreement: The École Polytechnique Foundation and École Polytechnique

> Data Science for Insurance Sector
The purpose of the Chair "Data Science for Insurance Sector" is twofold: it aims to support research and to promote training on data sciences, for Ingénieur Polytechnicien as well Master’s students, through various projects using new techniques (such as machine learning and risk management) in order to exploit massive data collected by insurers.
- Through this Chair, AXA Global Direct and École Polytechnique will determine several topics for research projects involving machine learning and Big Data applied to issues related to the insurance sector.
- The Chair on "Data Science for Insurance Sector" will also provide direct support to École Polytechnique laboratories by funding a professorship, as well as doctoral and post-doctoral positions to strengthen research teams working on that topic.
Holder: Michalis Vazirgiannis, Professor at École Polytechnique, Computer Science Laboratory of École Polytechnique (LIX)
Sponsor: AXA
Academic partner: École polytechnique
Partners to the Chair agreement: The École Polytechnique Foundation and École Polytechnique
