Visit of Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of Hong Kong, at l’X
Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, accompanied by Nicholas Yang, Secretary for Innovation and Technology, and Edward Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, visited l’X on June 19th, 2018.
As part of an official visit to France, Carrie Lam met with Jacques Biot on the campus of École Polytechnique. The aim of her visit was to promote the opportunities in Hong Kong for international people, including French people, and encourage exchanges between the two countries.
Mrs. Lam and Mr. Biot exchanged views on the opportunities offered to young students, graduates and entrepreneurs in Hong Kong. Although Hong Kong has become a major hub for Finance and Banking, Mrs. Lam insisted that new sectors such as Biomedical Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and Innovation are now emerging.
A presentation of the biomedical research projects carried out at École Polytechnique was made. Mrs. Lam also attended a demonstration of Sensome, a startup created and incubated in École Polytechnique Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Drahi X – Novation Center. Sensome, formerly known as Instent, develops a monitoring technology which makes existing medical devices connected, which improves the follow-up and treatment of patients.
This visit took place in a context of development of collaboration between École Polytechnique and Hong Kong Universities, as Jacques Biot was in Hong Kong himself two weeks before, to sign a student exchange agreement with the Hong Kong University of Sciences and Technologies. Mrs. Lam was pleased to learn that École Polytechnique now offers programs taught in English, which could encourage Hong Kong students to pursue their studies at l’X.
Mrs. Lam’s visit ended with a meeting with students from the Ingénieur Polytechnicien program and the Bachelor program. She presented the academic and professional opportunities offered to young talents from École Polytechnique in Hong Kong.
Mrs. Lam and Mr. Biot agreed on the importance of the collaboration between l’X and Hong Kong, both at the academic and research level, and encouraged students and entrepreneurs to seize the opportunities available in Hong Kong.
