École Polytechnique welcomed the delegates from its partners within the alliance RESCIF (Network of Excellence in Engineering Sciences of the French-speaking Community) on campus from October 12 to 14, 2023. The agenda of the meeting included the results of the entrepreneurship summer school, organized by the University Saint Joseph of Beirut in Lebanon in July 2023, as also the results of the call for projects to establish joint laboratories within the RESCIF network.
Confirming its contribution to research excellence in France and to the development of tomorrow's space technologies, École Polytechnique is participating alongside CNRS and Safran Electronics & Defense in the creation of a joint laboratory, COMHET, dedicated to improving space thruster technologies.
The WHIRLS project, which studies the role of ocean eddies on climate, is one of 37 Synergy grant projects announced on October 26 by the European Research Council (ERC). Three PhD candidates of École Polytechnique organized this year’s EuroTech winter school focused on “Accelerating Hydrogen: Towards Sustainable Production, Storage, and Conversion Technologies”. The seminar brought together over 30 PhD students from all six EuroTech partner universities across Europe from October 9-13, 2023, on campus and included a wide-ranging set of lectures and industry visits.
As part of the Erasmus Days, organized across Europe and celebrated by IP Paris, École Polytechnique's International Affairs office brought together students and staff on October 9, 2023, to take a closer look at the many opportunities for international mobility offered at l'X and to share experiences.
École Polytechnique and the University of California, Berkeley signed a Memorandum of Understanding to reinforce their international cooperation. The Polytechnique-Berkeley Research Fellowship program is one of the academic and scientific initiatives the two institutions plan to develop further. It enables École Polytechnique’s engineering students to enroll in a research internship within the laboratory of Berkeley’s Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) department and hence immerse themselves in the research environment in the United States.
Director-General of École Polytechnique since October 5th, 2022, Laura Chaubard will also act as acting president of the School's Board of Directors, with effect from September 17th, 2023.
Under the supervision of two professors from École Polytechnique and Télécom Paris, Jesus Cumana-Morales, a PhD student from the Czech Technical University, elaborated a scientific project, which has been accepted for publication at the IEEE International MeditCom 2023 Conference. The project had been initiated as part of École Polytechnique's course "Wireless Networks: from Cellular to Connected Objects", which has been made available to students from the five EuroTeQ Engineering University partner institutions in the shared course catalog of the European university EuroTeQ including École Polytechnique.
École Polytechnique is one of the founding members of the EuroTeQ Engineering University, founded in 2020 to design an innovative program to train European engineers. The European Commission has now extended funding for the successful European university until 2027. Dedicated to reinforcing the cooperation in education and lifelong learning between European universities of science and technology, the EuroTeQ Engineering University will comprise in the next phase of the project two additional partner institutions, HEC Paris and IESE Business School, and two associated partners, including Institut Polytechnique de Paris.
The international competition EuroTeQaThon, taking place from June 10th to 12th, 2023, at the Czech Technical University in Prague, brought together students from the six partner institutions of the EuroTeQ Engineering University. For the second consecutive edition, students from École Polytechnique participated in the event and presented the projects they developed in response to the competition's challenge "Leave no waste behind".
