École Polytechnique: the world’s 2nd best small university
Times Higher Education revealed this year’s ranking of the world’s best small universities on August 3. L’X came in at second place, just after Caltech.
On August 3, Times Higher Education revealed the third edition of its ranking of the twenty best small universities in the world, which rates universities with fewer than 5,000 students.
Having taken 3rd place in 2016 and 4th place in 2017, l’X has moved up to 2nd place in this year’s ranking, after Caltech in the United States. The Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa, Italy, takes the podium at 3rd position.
This ranking is based on student surveys about the small, "human-scale" universities they attend and the experiences they can offer: smaller class sizes, closer relationships with teaching staff, a greater sense of community and more close-knit campuses.
Two other French institutions appear in the ranking: École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (5th) and École Normale Supérieure de Cachan (18th).
