Eric Moulines elected member of the Academy of Sciences
Éric Moulines, professor at École Polytechnique's Applied Mathematics Center (CMAP, UMR École Polytechnique / CNRS), was recognized for his research by being elected a member of the Academy of Sciences during the plenary assembly of December 5, 2017 .
Graduate of École Polytechnique (X 1981) and Corps des Telecom engineer, Éric Moulines began his career at Télécom ParisTech. From 1996 to 2015, holding Professor's position, he founded, among others, courses in statistics and data sciences. He joined École Polytechnique in September 2015 to develop these courses for Ingénieur Polytechnicien and Master's programs, including the Master of Science Big Data for Business associating l'X and HEC.
This appointment to the Academy of Sciences in the section of mechanical and computer sciences confirms the influence of his research in the field of applied mathematics thanks to Big Data: the computational probabilities at the intersection between computational statistics and probabilistic models.
Éric Moulines had already been awarded for his work in statistics at the national level by receiving the Silver Medal of the CNRS in 2010 and the Grand Prix "Orange" of the Academy of Sciences in 2011. He is the author of two research monographs on complex dynamic inference problems and more than 100 research articles in international journals. In addition, for three consecutive years between 2013 and 2015, he was the editor-in-chief of the Bernoulli magazine, a leading European journal in the field of statistics.
