Military values still very much entrenched in l'X's spirit

École polytechnique paid tribute to the military values at the heart of its mission to serve the Homeland, Science and Glory during a ceremony for the celebration of Sainte Barbe, l'X's holy patroness.

Cérémonies de la Sainte Barbe dans la cour d'honneur de l'Ecole polytechnique

The Director-General of École polytechnique, François Bouchet, delivered a speech to the 2017 and 2018 promotions of polytechnicians students gathered in the campus courtyard of honour to celebrate Sainte Barbe, l'X's holy patroness.
François Bouchet restated that the military values of bravery, loyalty, discipline, leadership and team work were still very much at the heart of the polytechnician spirit.

"These values are entrenched in our military identity which sets us apart in the French higher education system, inbues the campus life and creates a sense of community across generations", declared François Bouchet.
As École polytechnique is engaged in a transformation process to reinforce its global footprint through its involvement in the Institut Polytechnique de Paris project, François Bouchet urged the new promotions to uphold the role model of excellency and exemplarity demonstrated by l'X since its foundation, 225 years ago.

Contribute to the public good and civil protection

In a world confronted to many new security challenges from terrorism to cyberattacks not mentionning trade and economic conflicts or the consequences of climate change, Ecole polytechnique delivers high level training to future officers, high officials, scientists, managers and innovators who will contribute together to the public good and protect their fellow citizens. François Bouchet noted that the number of gratuated polytechnicians who chose to join the rank of the Army was on the rise compared to previous years.

The Sainte Barbe ceremony, marked by a salute to the flag, ended with a minute of silence in tribute to the 13 French soldiers who died for their country in Mali on November 25 and to commander Laurent Germon from l'X who tragically passed away on November 26.
