October 12: celebrating science and 225 years
On Saturday October 12th, École Polytechnique will welcome the general public for the annual Science Fair, with a special focus this year on the school’s 225th anniversary. Researchers will present their work and scientific progress from the research center’s 23 laboratories.
L'X will be taking part in the Science Fair on Saturday, October 12th with a special focus on its 225th anniversary. As always, École Polytechnique will be taking part in the Science Fair and, since this year is the school’s 225th anniversary, the events will focus on the theme “225 Years of Advancing Our Understanding of the World”.
All afternoon, visitors can join our stands manned by the school’s researchers, doctoral researchers and students, presenting developments from the laboratories in the fields of astronomy, biology, mathematics, meteorology and energy.
Scientific conferences also provide opportunities to hear directly from researchers. Visitors can discover the math behind wallpaper, explore the potential of chemistry in aid of sustainable development, unravel scientific concepts hidden in Star Wars, contemplate how the Sun and its eruptions affect human activities, and meet Gérard Mourou, 2018 laureate of the Nobel Prize in Physics.
Visitors will also get a behind-the-scenes look at research conducted at École Polytechnique through nine thematic laboratory tours, observe scientific and historical collections compiled since the foundation of l'X in 1794, participate in two workshops on Foucault’s pendulum and the bottomless mirror, and explore the style of famous contemporary artists from a mathematical perspective with an exhibition on art and science entitled “In the Style of...”
