X-Up : Call for applications for class 13
X-Up, the Ecole Polytechnique incubator, is calling for applications for its 13th promotion, which is open until February 28. X-Up is looking for start-ups in the fields of energy, industry 4.0 and aerospace.
The Ecole Polytechnique X-Up incubator, dedicated to innovative start-ups and project leaders, is launching a call for applications for its 13th promotion wich is open until February 28.
The incubator is housed within the Drahi-X Novation Center, which also hosts the X-Tech booster, the X-Fab prototyping space and the innovation centers of major companies.
For this new cohort, three main fields are targeted: energy, industry 4.0 and aerospace. At the end of the application phase, a first pre-selection will be organized, followed by a pitch session and a "sandbox" for the selected applicants, leading to the final selection, which will join the incubator from April 26.
Wide support, a project booster network
The X-Up six-months intensive support program is built on a succession of six "sprints" during which a coach per start-up will train and challenge the entrepreneurs on key topics: target market, business model, product, prototyping, marketing, multi-target pitches and international development, etc. A program manager determines the six-months’ roadmap with the entrepreneurs at the beginning of the incubation period, assists them and ensures that they keep to the roadmap on a daily basis in order to structure their project and accelerate its launch.
Each entrepreneur also benefits from one to three mentors, namely experienced alumni of the School, who will challenge their ideas and business plans. For the design, two research engineers from the École's laboratories and a project designer provide assistance. To be able to quickly launch a first functional product, X-Fab, the 1000 m² prototyping space, allows them to prototype electronics, robotics, augmented reality, mechanical realization or optics, accompanied by two engineers on equipment and best practices.
After six months, having developed a structured team, identified markets, designed first functional product and received first qualified user feedback, the entrepreneurs will present their companies during a Demo Day to business angels, investment funds and partners.
At the end of the program, some will be able to stay in the X-Up program for another six months, while others will be able to join the X-Tech Booster, the incubator for more mature companies, which houses around 20 start-ups. The idea is to allow them to anchor their company in a high-powered technological ecosystem for a period of up to four years, during which time they will make progress on key issues: raising funds, strengthening their team and their technology, as well as reaching international markets. At the end of these further six months, the incubated entrepreneurs will be part of a community of entrepreneurs that they can call upon whenever they need it.
