Thanks to the commitment of its patrons, École Polytechnique hosted an international scientific workshop devoted to complex systems, a major challenge in modern engineering. This event, organised as part of the Complex Systems Architecture Chair (ASC) at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, and made possible thanks to the support of Dassault Systèmes, Dassault Aviation, KNDS France, Naval Group, the French Defence Procurement Agency and the Defence Innovation Agency, brought together world-renowned experts to explore new methods for analysing and certifying these systems.
Three young researchers from École Polytechnique receive the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Young Talent Award. Thirty-four doctoral and postdoctoral students are recognized for their research work. The jury was chaired by Françoise Combes, astrophysicist and President of the French Academy of Sciences.
Anna Korba, Vignesh Kannan, Thomas Debris-Alazard, and Alejandro Alvarez Laguna have just been awarded Starting Grants from the European Research Council (ERC). These grants enable young researchers to set up research teams working on cutting-edge topics.
François Levin has just been awarded the Prix Michel Serres de thèse interdisciplinaire 2025 for his doctorate at l’X Interdisciplinary Laboratory (LINX*). His thesis is entitled “L'intelligence artificielle au défi de ses critiques philosophiques”.
The Structural Biology of the Cell Laboratory (BIOC*) is celebrating its fiftieth year. From its beginnings as a biochemical laboratory, it now deals with biological issues on many different scales: atomic, molecular and cellular.
The internationally renowned Slovenian mathematician Igor Klep is joining the Laboratory of Computer Science (LIX) and the Center for Theoretical Physics (CPHT) at École Polytechnique as a Gaspard Monge Visiting Professor. A professor of mathematics at both the University of Ljubljana and the University of Primorska in Slovenia, Igor Klep is collaborating on quantum information theory research with the PhIQus research group, led by Marc-Olivier Renou, INRIA Saclay Junior Professor Chair and affiliated researcher at LIX and CPHT.
The year 2025 has been proclaimed International Year of Quantum Science and Technology by the United Nations. In the 20th century, quantum mechanics radically changed the way we think about the physical world. Today, quantum physics is in the midst of a renaissance that is opening up new and unexpected applications. Laurent Sanchez-Palencia, Director of Research at the Center for Theoretical Physics (CPHT*) and Deputy Director of the Quantum-Saclay center, gives us an overview of this “second quantum revolution”.
At the “AI, Science and Society” conference organized by Institut Polytechnique de Paris on February 6 and 7, 2025 at École polytechnique, the “Frontiers in Generative AI” symposium explored advances in generative AI, of which ChatGPT is the emblematic example. In particular, Vicky Kalogeiton presented her research work at the Computer Science Laboratory of the École polytechnique (LIX*).
Professor in the Department of Computer Science and member of the joint team Cedar of Inria and the Computer Science Laboratory at École Polytechnique (LIX*), Yanlei Diao will lead the ExplainableAD project on large-scale data processing.
An international scientific conference will be held on February 6 and 7 at École Polytechnique, focusing on the impact of the development of artificial intelligence on science and society. This event will take place ahead of the Summit for Action on AI, organized by the French authorities at the Grand Palais in Paris on February 10 and 11.
