Hong Wang (X2010), a Chinese mathematician and academic specializing in harmonic analysis, has just received two prestigious new international mathematics awards: the Clay Research Award and the New Horizons in Mathematics Prize. Hong Wang has distinguished herself in particular by announcing a proof of Kakeya’s conjecture in three dimensions, a problem that has remained open for over a century, at the intersection of analysis and geometry.
École Polytechnique, in partnership with Campus AI, announces the creation of a Chair—also supported by the Fondation de l’X—dedicated to artificial intelligence, digital sovereignty, and industrial performance. Organized in France in alignment with the G7 summit 2026, the presidential summit U7+ 2026 was co-hosted by École Polytechnique, Sciences Po, and University Paris-Cité on April 14-15, 2026, and brought together 37 university presidents from around the world. Inass El Hajj is a postdoctoral researcher in materials chemistry at the Laboratory of Interface and Thin Film Physics (LPICM*), as part of the Sustainable Energy Chair, supported by EDF. Her research focuses on the synthesis of graphene obtained through liquid-phase exfoliation and its use as a protective coating for metals in marine environments. At the interface between fundamental research and industrial applications, she is developing innovative solutions to combat material corrosion, particularly in the context of sustainable energy.
On Saturday 11 April, almost 350 secondary school girls from the Île-de-France region were welcomed to the École Polytechnique campus. There, they had the opportunity to learn about scientific study programmes and careers in various fields, such as aeronautics, defence, artificial intelligence, energy and the environment, and research, from 47 female professionals and 15 students. They also had the opportunity to meet Elisabeth Borne, the former Prime Minister (who was the second woman to hold this position under the Fifth Republic), and Laura Chaubard, President and Chief executive of the École Polytechnique.
A newly signed Memorandum of Understanding between École Polytechnique and the Tandon School of Engineering at New York University (NYU) underscores the shared commitment to encouraging and facilitating international mobility between both institutions, particularly for research internships. Ekaterina Kukhtenko's start-up, VAir, aims to make respiratory infection diagnosis easier using a portable, ultra-fast device that analyses patients' exhaled air directly. Born out of the Covid-19 pandemic, this idea has the potential to help millions of people around the world, particularly in developing countries. It has been brought to fruition with the support of the École Polytechnique incubator.

The start-up Ami Labs (Advanced Machine Intelligence), founded by French researcher Yann LeCun (former Chief Scientist at Meta and winner of the 2018 Turing Award), became a unicorn as soon as it was created. It will be led by Alexandre Lebrun (X1994) and co-founder of the medical AI start-up Nabla. Ami Labs'goal is to develop the next generation of artificial intelligence capable of understanding the world around us: ʻworld modelsʼ.
Against a backdrop of rising geopolitical tensions, six second-year Cycle Ingénieur Polytechnicien students participated in the British Model NATO, held on February 25 at the British Foreign Office. This first French participation in the British Model NATO took place as part of the Model NATO course offered by the English section of the School’s Department of Languages and Cultures.
