At the Core of Paris-Saclay

The École Polytechnique research center is located at the heart of the Paris-Saclay campus and is ranked among the top eight competitiveness clusters in the world by the magazine published by former students of the renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Paris-Saclay campus makes it possible to bring together, near the École Polytechnique,  several of its partner schools such as ENSTA, ENSAE and Telecom, as well as other grandes écoles such as Centrale and ENS Cachan. The campus thus fosters local collaboration between the École Polytechnique and other educational and research teams within the various grandes écoles and universities.

The Paris-Saclay project also allows the X research center to benefit from "Equipements d’Excellence" (Equipex) and "Laboratoires d'Excellence" (Labex) financing.

Equipements d'excellence

The École Polytechnique laboratories are involved in nine "Équipements d’Excellence" (Equipex) projects. These projects are aimed at helping French laboratories to acquire cutting-edge scientific equipment in order to conduct world-class research in the pursuit of increased knowledge and innovation.

> CILEX
The objective of the Interdisciplinary Center for Extreme Light (Centre Interdisciplinaire Lumière Extrême - CILEX) project is to develop an international center for academic and applied research using all of the Plateau de Saclay’s additional laser and experiment facilities.
The École Polytechnique coordinates this project along with the CNRS.
École Polytechnique laboratories participating in Equipex: Laboratory for Intense Laser Use (LULI-École Polytechnique), Applied Optics Laboratory (LOA), Leprince-Ringuet Laboratory (LLR), Theoretical Physics Center (CPHT).

> TEMPOS
The TEMPOS project is aimed at creating, at Saclay, a triangle of materials science with a center for nano-object development, a center for nanocharacterization and a center for the exploration of new material properties.

> CASD
The Secure Remote Access Center (Centre d’Accès Sécurisé Distant) project is a highly-secure infrastructure that allows researchers to access detailed, individual databases.

> MATMECA
This project is primarily focused on the major scientific and manufacturing challenges in the development, characterization, modeling and behavior simulation of materials and structures.

> MATRICE
A multifactorial, multi-scale, and multidisciplinary platform for individual and social memory, based on written, oral and audiovisual testimonies of two tragedies in contemporary history: World War II and the attacks of September 11, 2001.

> DIGISCOPE
DIGISCOPE is a network infrastructure used to develop interactive techniques for viewing highly complex data from various sources such as modeling and digital simulations.

> Sense-city
Sense-city is a chain of innovative sensor equipment (design, prototyping, performance and risk evaluation) with integrated nanotechnology that can be used to collect information. Sense-sity will be centered around a "Mini-City".

> PETAL + 
The overall objective of the PETAL + project is to create a center of research excellence for high-power lasers and laser-plasma interaction to be applied in particular to controlled fusion for energy.
École Polytechnique laboratories participating in Equipex: The École is involved through the Lasers and Plasmas Institute (Institut Lasers et Plasmas - ILP) to which several of the École's laboratories belong. Its director is Patrick Mora, the director of the Theoretical Physics Center (CPHT), Intense Laser Laboratory (LULI).

> MORPHOSCOPE2
Morphoscope2 project aims at establishing state-of-the art facilities for optical imaging and image analysis of living systems. It will integrate cutting-edge technology in photonic microscopy and computational analysis dedicated to in vivo multiscale investigations in biology.
The École Polytechnique coordinates this project along with the CNRS.

"Laboratoires d’excellence"

The École Polytechnique's laboratories and their teams are part of the French Research of Excellence networks, i.e. LABEX, on the Paris-Saclay Campus. These Laboratoires d'Excellence are intended to provide research support to all teams on a given scientific topic. In total, the École Polytechnique's laboratories and their teams participate in ten LABEX.

> LASIPS LABEX
The LASIPS LABEX is a multidisciplinary view and "systems" approach to applied engineering in three key sectors: sustainable development, energy, and health.

 P210 LABEX is aimed at answering important questions ranging from the infinitely small (particle physics) to the infinitely large (cosmology).
