École Polytechnique opens its doors for the European Heritage Days
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, École Polytechnique would like to welcome you in and let you embark on five different thematic journeys. Now is the time to discover the exciting history of a highly prestigious scientific institution.
Many works of art can be found on the campus of École Polytechnique. L’X holds and displays a number of sculptures, paintings, engravings and drawings that form an integral part of its history and heritage, including around sixty drawings by 18th century masters. Mus’X, the École Polytechnique Museum, is found on the garden level of the main library and has been open to the public since spring 2018. It houses a temporary exhibition space alongside its permanent exhibition, in which a collection of the institution’s historical scientific artefacts constitutes the guiding narrative. The Museum’s collections are managed by the Historical Resource Center and conserved for educational and/or research purposes. Mus’X contains a diverse assortment of scientific instruments, busts, uniforms, illustrations and archives: a collection of rare and precious works that tell the story of École Polytechnique and provide an overview of the history of science in general.
The European Heritage Days on Saturday and Sunday, September 15 and 16, will be a chance to present this legacy to the general public. You are invited to follow five different thematic paths, four of which will be led by students and the team in charge of historical resources at École Polytechnique.
