The Gaspard Monge Visiting Professor Program, season 2019-2020

After receiving four prestigious professors in 2018-2019, The Gaspard Monge Visiting Professor Program will allow five new professors to join École Polytechnique this year.

Last year, scientists from the United States, Chile and Brazil came to l’X in the framework of the Gaspard Monge Visiting Professor Program, to develop existing scientific collaborations at École Polytechnique in their respective fields: Physics, Mechanics, Informatics and Applied Mathematics.

The professors invited thanks to this program come to work on specific projects with collaborators from the laboratories of École Polytechnique but also to teach, meet students and improve their classes. Interdisciplinary projects are eventually carried out thanks to the existing connexions between different laboratories and scientists on campus.

This Visiting Professor Program, supported by the Foundation of l’X (FX), also enables the organization of scientific events such as conferences, summer schools, workshops, gathering dozens of international speakers from all over the world and attracting various participants. These events are real opportunities for the community of each field to meet and intensify their relationships while contributing to École Polytechnique and its Research Center’s activities.

For this new season 2020/19, the Gaspard Monge Visiting Professor Program will receive professors from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and Cambridge University among others, in fields such as Mathematics, Mechanics, Informatics and Biochemistry.

The Gaspard Monge Visiting Professor Program is a visiting professor program supported by the École Polytechnique Foundation (FX). The program is aimed at researchers of international reputation and typically Senior Experts or Young Brilliant Scientists internationally recognized as leaders or future leaders in their scientific area.

These top-level professors reside on campus for a period of 3 to 4 months and are invited to give a 24-hour course, on the subject of their choice, in one of the training programs of l’X. These courses are open to 3rd or 4th year Polytechnique students, Master's students and PhD students.
