President of l'X Eric Labaye visited PKU during his official trip to China
On December 3rd, 2018, President of École Polytechnique Eric Labaye met with his Chinese colleagues from Peking University, President Hao Ping and Vice-President Gong Qihuang. Eric Labaye visited PKU accompanied by a delegation of researchers and members of École Polytechnique's administration.
École Polytechnique's delegation was hosted by President Hao Ping, Vice-President Gong Qihuang, International Affairs team members and faculty representing Computer Science Department, Chemistry and Molecular Engineering Department, and Physics Department of PKU. L'X was reprensented by its President Eric Labaye, Administration staff members and researchers from its Computer Science Laboratory.
Founded as the Imperial University of Peking in 1898, Peking University is one of the oldest modern higher education institutions in China. L'X and PKU have maintained close relations for several years, the two insitutions of excellence signed a Double Degree Program Agreement in 2015 and a new non-degree academic exchange cooperation agreement last October. Moreover L'X has participated in Peking University's 120th anniversary celebration earlier this year.
During the discussion, both Presidents explored new potential collaborations between l'X and PKU that could be focused on Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and AI and shared their aspiration to build more academic and scientific links between the two universities.
The discussion was closed by the the PKU School of Physics that has recently hosted Centennial Physics Lecture Series, the first international event attended by Gérard Mourou who gave a presentation to over 700 PKU students right after having been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in October 2018.
