Summer School on Cell Migration in Health and Diseases at l’X
A Summer School on Cell Migration in Health and Diseases took place at École Polytechnique from June 27th to July 3rd, 2018. This academic scientific event was organized by two long-standing partners, l’X and Tsinghua University.
The Summer School on Cell Migration in Health and Diseases was organized by Alexis Gautreau, principal investigator at the Biochemistry Laboratory of l’X and President of the Biology Department, Nicolas David, principal investigator at École Polytechnique Laboratory for Optics and Bioscience and Guangshuo Ou, Gaspard Monge Visiting Professor (GMVP) Program laureate from Tsinghua University.
The scientific event was organized on the occasion of Professor Ou’s stay at l’X from May to August 2018. Thanks to the GMVP Program and to the École Polytechnique Foundation’s support, Professor Ou currently spends a four-month period at École Polytechnique. The GMVP program is an opportunity for Professor Ou to develop further scientific collaborations with École Polytechnique BIOC and LOB laboratories, focused on the identification of novel regulators of cell migration.
The three groups have complementary systems to study cell migration: genetics of the C.elegans worm in the lab of Professor Ou, the zebrafish embryo in the lab of Professor David, culture of human cells and patient samples in the lab of Professor Gautreau. This joint research is particularly relevant for the formation of metastases during cancer progression.
The summer school was the occasion to gather together several experts of the field from leading institutions such as the Francis Crick Institute (UK), University of North Carolina (USA), Fudan University (China), Institut Curie (France), University College London (UK) and to share expertise with PhD and Master’s students. The Summer School attracted 25 students from all over Europe, Russia and China to École Polytechnique. All participants kept vivid memories of this intense week!
