Two entrepreneurs have been awarded the 2018 X-Grant Silicon Valley
Promising entrepreneurs from École Polytechnique’s entrepreneurship center, Jérémie Laurent (former Ingénieur Polytechnicien student, X 2011) and Rafaël de Lavergne (former Ingénieur Polytechnicien student, X 2013) have been awarded the 2018 X-Grant Silicon Valley.
The “X-Grant Silicon Valley”: a grant to spot talented entrepreneurs and promote creative thinking
The “X-Grant Silicon Valley” was created in 2013 and rewards talented Alumni from École Polytechnique’s entrepreneurial ecosystem Drahi X-Novation Center. The laureate’s project must be innovative and be linked to the Silicon Valley. The grant is half funded by The Foundation of École Polytechnique and by Friends of École Polytechnique, subsidiary of the Foundation located in the United States. Amounting to $50,000 for each laureate, the X-Grant Silicon Valley also includes high-level mentoring by Californian entrepreneurs and investors.
Jérémie Laurent, CTO and Founder of Astraveus: biotechnological start-up revolutionizing cancer treatments
Using the performance of innovative microfluidic technologies, Astraveus develops revolutionary production tools, adjustable to any kind of biopharmaceutical drugs and customizable for each patient. By enabling a strong increase of production capacity, a quality gain and a significant reduction of manufacturing cost, Astraveus is working on ensuring that more patients can benefit from these new treatments.
Jérémie Laurent said: “We are very glad to receive this grant that represents an invaluable support for our start-up. It will especially help us to finance the intellectual protection of our technology and to increase our technical team. Moreover, mentorship we will benefit from is a real asset to launch our product in the United States which is the first international market in our business sector”
Rafaël de Lavergne, Co-founder of Totem: a cafeteria service in companies to increase employee’s wellbeing
Launched in February 2017, Totem offers office healthy and affordable snacking facilities with the aim of creating a convivial space where employees could meet and share moments together. After the installation of this space, the start-up provides it weekly with drinks, fruits or balanced snacks, ethically produced and good-quality. The start-up already has 70 customers and feeds every week around 2000 employees. It continues to grow and to develop a new range of modular furniture in order to adapt to every size organization.
According to Rafaël de Lavergne, “Obtaining the X -Grant Silicon Valley is a great chance for us. The financial assistance and mentorship that come with it will help us to further develop Totem and mainly to extend our modular furniture range. This new one will be installed at our customers’ office space and will be an integral part of the user experience and of our brand image”
