Visit of Mikael Damberg, Swedish Minister for Enterprise and Innovation

As part of an official visit to France, Mikael Damberg, Swedish Minister for Enterprise and Innovation, was at l’X on May 24th, 2018. He met with Jacques Biot, President of École Polytechnique, and Frank Pacard, Provost. He visited the Fujitsu Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence.

Minister Damberg visited the Fujitsu Center of Excellence (CoE) dedicated to Artificial Intelligence with Benjamin Revcolevschi, Managing Director of Fujitsu France, and Axel Mery, Head of the CoE. This CoE, hosted in École Polytechnique's Drahi X - Novation Center, will welcome students from Chalmers University of Technology for an internship next summer. Mr. Damberg's visit was also the opportunity to explore possibilities of cooperation between Sweden and École Polytechnique, both in academic programs and research projects.

Mr. Damberg's visit to France was focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI). He was looking for connections across the world to "gather resources and learn from each other". Beside student exchanges, he pointed out the importance of collaboration in fundamental research: "We cannot skip basic research". For the last few years, l'X has become a major stakeholder in AI in France. The creation of Fujitsu CoE on its campus is one example. More recently, École Polytechnique signed a chair with Google France to develop a Master's degree and research projects in AI and Advanced Visual Computing.

AI has become a priority for both France and Sweden. Mr. Damberg's visit showed that École Polytechnique is now a major hub for the development of research in AI and the training of future young leaders in the field of innovation.
