Start-ups at l’X cause a stir in the world of education

At the beginning of this new school year, École Polytechnique would like to take the opportunity to showcase five start-ups created by l’X students or accelerated on our campus, which are revolutionizing the field of EdTech, that is, connected education.

These burgeoning companies are creating the education of tomorrow with tools and solutions for helping children learn to read, introducing them to robotics and science, and giving support to children with dyslexia.

Helping children learn to read with Lalilo

Lalilo, a start-up launched by Amine Mezzour (Year of Entry: 2012), Laurent Jolie, (Year of Entry: 2012) and Benjamin Abdi (Year of Entry: 2013), provides a digital teaching tool that assists children who are learning to read and write. This online application is designed for first grade teachers who wish to employ a more individualized teaching style. The tool adapts to each child’s learning pace and can be involved in daily use in the classroom through creation of workshops, individual worksheets and interactive lessons.

Mainbot: introducing children to robotics

The Mainbot start-up, created by Boris Kesler, Antoine Mulin and Javier Alaves, was a member of the fifth annual cohort of companies to have completed the École Polytechnique X-Up Start-Up Acceleration program. This young company is getting children ready for the robotics revolution with the help of its very own robot, Winky. The goal is to make children more familiar with robotics during the earliest stages of their formative years, so that they can understand the modalities and challenges of robotic operation. In doing so, they gain necessary skills for future robotics in order to be able to play a key role in the development of the field.

VittaScience offers fun science experiments

VittaScience designs ready-to-use kits for performing science experiments in class and, in doing so, inspires careers in science and technology among young people. Founded by Léo Briand, graduate of the École Polytechnique Entrepreneurship Master’s Program, this start-up presents primary and secondary school teachers with the company’s first kit that allows them to build and fly a solar-powered hot air balloon. The balloon is equipped with Arduino sensors, which measure different parameters like pollution rate, temperature and altitude.

Musical therapy tool from Bmotion helps children with dyslexia

Mila presents a type of learning therapy software that brings together music, neuroscience and personalization technology, to assist children with language and learning difficulties. The start-up was among the seventh year of companies to have completed the X-Up Acceleration program. Mila was co-created by Kenneth Burns and his partner, François Vonthron, a Master’s graduate from École Polytechnique.

Edukaty supports students in senior high and in foundation year programs

Created by Othmane Akherraz (Year of Entry: 2005) and Walid Daou (Year of Entry: 2005), Edukaty is a digital academic support platform, which offers virtual classes through the medium of videoconferences to students preparing for high school exams or competitive university entry exams. Students are able to attend a class from the comfort of their home and interact in real time with the teacher, just like in a real classroom. Selected teachers are graduates of grandes écoles for business and engineering.
