École Polytechnique is one of the founding members of the EuroTeQ Engineering University, founded in 2020 to design an innovative program to train European engineers. The European Commission has now extended funding for the successful European university until 2027. Dedicated to reinforcing the cooperation in education and lifelong learning between European universities of science and technology, the EuroTeQ Engineering University will comprise in the next phase of the project two additional partner institutions, HEC Paris and IESE Business School, and two associated partners, including Institut Polytechnique de Paris.
Nearly three hundred students of the X2022 class were involved in the in the Bastille Day parade, while Ecole Polytechnique's link with the Armed Forces, established in 1804, remains as strong as ever. In 2022-2023, 80% of the ingénieur polytechnicien program’s students will have completed their human and military training in the Army, Air Force, Navy, the French Gendarmerie and the Paris Fire Brigade.
The international competition EuroTeQaThon, taking place from June 10th to 12th, 2023, at the Czech Technical University in Prague, brought together students from the six partner institutions of the EuroTeQ Engineering University. For the second consecutive edition, students from École Polytechnique participated in the event and presented the projects they developed in response to the competition's challenge "Leave no waste behind".
Several start-ups from École polytechnique's innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem were present at VivaTech 2023, whose 7th edition confirmed its status as one of Europe's leading tech events, attracting 150,000 visitors, 50% more than in 2022.
International, Institution, Sustainable Development
École Polytechnique’s presidency of the alliance spurs a unanimous commitment to accelerate sustainable development. EuroTech Universities Alliance president since June 2022, Éric Labaye, the Chairman and President of École Polytechnique and of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, welcomed the presidents of the EuroTech partner institutions at École Polytechnique for their annual meeting on June 7th, 2023.
On June 9, the second REFLEXIONS International conference, organized by the Institut Polytechnique de Paris at Ecole Polytechnique, brought together numerous academic and scientific experts, public and private sector leaders and civil society stakholders to contribute to understanding and resolving regulatory issues in the fight against global warming.
Eleven start-ups from École polytechnique took part in the 2023 edition of Spring, the Paris-Saclay Cluster innovation and entrepreneurship event, held on June 1 and 2 on the HEC Paris campus. The program included project presentations and meetings with investors.
From May 31st to June 2nd, at the premises of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Natalia Pietruszewska, a Master of Science & Technology student at École Polytechnique, and Abu Bakar Ali, a Bachelor student at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), both represented the EuroTeQ Engineering University, of which École Polytechnique is a founding member. The European Students' Assembly brought together over a hundred students from European universities.
École polytechnique ranks 45th in the 2023 global ranking of the Round University Ranking (RUR), which lists the best higher education institutions worldwide, and takes the top spot among the listed French institutions.
The Best Young Economist Award, created in 2000 by the French newspaper Le Monde and the Cercle des économistes, singles out the work of a French economist, or an economist working in France, under the age of 41. It acknowledges the academic excellence of the candidates, but also aims to highlight their ability to address the present economic and social realities, and to provide solutions to the most pressing issues.
Gustave Ronteix (X 2014), leader of the Orakl project (1st prize), Léonie Schröder (Télécom SudParis), leader of the HUVY project (2nd prize ex aequo), Hugo Weidmann (M 2021) and Alexander Dmoch (M 2022), leaders of the Noctua Care project (2nd prize ex aequo) won the 2023 Bertrand Pivin Awards. They were rewarded for their innovations in the healthcare field, which the jury choosed to highlight this year.
École Polytechnique organized a five-day boot camp for the 35 postdoctoral researchers enrolled in the EuroTech Postdoc2 fellowship program. From April 17-21, 2023, the participants joined the campus from across Europe to meet their peers and take part in several workshops designed to support them in their future careers.
