Chairs

André Citroën
green mobility, sensors, electrification, batteries

Since its creation, the chair « André Citroën » develops green mobility thanks to its research on electrical engine and battery optimisation. Its research is also focused on NO2 detection and absorption through the introduction of additive synthesis and architectured materials. Thus, the chair held by Éric Charkaluk and supported by the PSA group, ambitions to lower the transports’ carbon imprint.

Video presentation of the Chair

Holder: Éric Charkaluk, CNRS researcher at the Laboratoire de Mécanique des Solides (LMS – joint research unit CNRS – École polytechnique) and professor at the École polytechnique of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris
Sponsorship type: chair
Creation date: 06/05/2011
Partners: Fondation de l'X

Complex systems engineering
distributed control system, AI, autonomous systems, robotics

Since its creation in 2003, the chair « Ingénierie des systèmes complexes » develops and enhances autonomous control systems. Held by Éric Goubault and supported by the Direction générale de l’armement, Thalès, Dassault Aviation and DCNS, the chair’s research is focused on the distribution of control systems, as well as complex AI design and certification in those embedded systems.

Holders: Éric Goubault, professor at the Laboratoire d’informatique de l’X (LIX – joint research unit CNRS – École polytechnique) at the École polytechnique of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris.
Laurent Pautet, professor at Télécom Paris of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris
Alexandre Chapoutot, associate professor at ENSTA of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris
Sponsorship type: chair
Creation date: 2003
Partners: École nationale supérieure de techniques avancées, Télécom Paris, Direction générale de l'armement, Fondation de l'X

Integrated ubran mobility
algorithms, optimisation, transportation, social acceptability, applied mathematics, economy

Combining innovation, ecology and urbanism, the chair “Integrated Urban mobility”, founded in 2019 and held by Claudia d’Ambrosio, studies the economic, social, decision-making aspects of urban air mobility, which concerns the integration of electrical Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircrafts in the public transportation offer. Supported by Uber, the chair investigates this establishment in terms of optimisation (trajectories, air traffic control management) and acceptability (visual and noise disturbance), thanks to social studies and 3D virtual reality simulations. Thus, algorithmics and applied mathematics are shaping tomorrow’s transportation system.

Holder: Claudia d’Ambrosio, CNRS researcher at the Laboratoire d’informatique de l’X (LIX – a joint research unit CNRS – École polytechnique) and professor at the École Polytechnique of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris
Sponsorship type: chair
Creation date: 14/05/2019
Partners: Fondation de l'X

Sponsorship programme

Space, sciences and spatial applications
aerospace, aerodynamics, cubestats, transportation, plasmas, astrophysics

Supported since 2019 by Thalès Alenia Space and ArianeGroup, the teaching sponsorship « Espace, sciences et défis du spatial » held by Pascal Chabert ambitions to train tomorrow’s aerospace experts. To do so, the Chair’s teachings is based on two cornerstones : firstly space projects housed by the Centre Spatial Etudiant of the École polytechnique, and secondly high level physics, mechanics, applied mathematics and computing courses.

Holder: Pascal Chabert, CNRS research director at the Laboratoire de physique des plasmas (LPP – joint research unit CNRS – École polytechnique, Sorbonne Université) and professor at the École polytechnique of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris
Jean-François Roussel, director of the Département Physique Instrumentation Environnement Espace, ONERA
