L’X welcomes the first cohort of its new Graduate Degree programs' students
École polytechnique has launched three Graduate Degree programs for this 2016-17 academic year: « Energy Environment », « Big Data for Business » and « Corporate Strategy for New Markets ». Students from the first intake arrived on campus on September 5th to take part in an orientation week.
Here they are! The 39 students from the first intake of École polytechnique’s Graduate Degree programs arrived on campus on September 5th, 2016.
One week to discover the campus
Before starting classes on September 14th, the students took part in an Orientation Week. During 9 days they attended information sessions on academic and administrative matters, career skills and employability workshops and a presentation by the Student Union on student associations and activities on campus. International students participated in a workshop on how to adjust to France and the French way of life and if needed, meetings in order to complete immigration process.
All students also met with faculty for course selection and academic advisement as well as with key administrative and student services. Finally they had the opportunity to participate in a guided campus tour and settled into their accommodations. The objective of orientation week is to ease their transition to the school, to reduce enrollment stress, meet their new classmates and professors in a welcoming environment, and to start to feel at home at École Polytechnique.
« This orientation week has been much appreciated, considering many of us are coming to France for the first time and barely speak any French » said David, an English-speaking student from the University of Toronto, Canada, enrolled in the Corporate Strategy for New Markets program. 72% of the 39 Graduate Degree students are international, from over 17 nationalities. Among them, 60% come from Europe and 25% from Asia. Women make up 20% of the Graduate student cohort.
Three Graduate Degree programs have been launched this year: « Energy environment: science technology and management », « Big data for business », and « Corporate strategy for new markets ». These two-year programs are entirely taught in English and are open to students holding a Bachelor’s degree. « So far, the program meets all my expectations. I hope to gain as much knowledge as I can in order to start my career directly after graduation » says Thai-Ha, a Vietnamese student enrolled in the Energy Environment program, coming from Hanoi National University of Education.
