Summer schools of l’X

All summer, École Polytechnique organised Summer Schools on campus or abroad with different partners.

Data Science Summer School (DS3)

The Data Science Summer School (DS3), co-organised by the Data Science Initiative of École polytechnique and DATAIA Institute, held this year its third edition from June 24 to June 28, 2019.

307 students (MSc, PhD) & postdocs, 105 professionals and 35 experts (speakers, guests) from 34 countries, 220 institutions and 70 companies attended this event, whose primary focus was to provide a series of courses and practical sessions covering the latest advances in the field of data science.

Summer School on Fluid Dynamics of Sustainability and the Environment

From July 1 to 12, Ph.D. students, postdocs and engineers with a background in earth sciences, engineering or mathematics could attend the Summer School on Fluid Dynamics of Sustainability and the Environment. During this programme, the fluid-dynamical aspects of energy transition and climate change were covered, giving students an advanced understanding of geophysical and environmental fluid dynamics, while fostering community networking among current and future researchers in these critical fields of science and technology.

The school is co-organised every year by faculty and researchers from the University of Cambridge and from l’X and it is hosted in alternation at one of these two institutions since 2012.

Summer School in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

This year, l’X launched its own Summer School with the Summer School in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science held from July 1 to 12, 2019, on campus. Sixteen undergraduates from China, Greece, Italy, Malaysia, Netherland, Spain and Nigeria participated in this programme, attending course in data science, artificial intelligence and French culture.

A summer school in science aimed at High School students and another one for undergraduate students will be held in 2020.

SPbPU Summer School: “Additive Production and Joining Technologies”

In 2019, École Polytechnique and Peter the Great Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbSTU) launched their first joint educational programme: “Additive Production and Joining Technologies” happening at the SPbPU Summer School.

From July 8-19, 15 students could enjoy both theoretical knowledge and practical activities covering additive manufacturing, joining techniques, powder production and characterization, metallurgical and mechanical properties, residual stresses and post treatments, topological optimization.

Daniel Weisz-Patrault and Eric Charkaluk, from the Solid mechanics laboratory of École Polytechnique, were among the professors of this programme.

X/KHU Summer Camp

Throughout the month of July, École Polytechnique welcomes 31 Bachelor students from Kyung Hee University in Seoul, Korea, as part of the 13th X/KHU Summer Camp. These students follow courses in semiconductor physics and discovery of the history of the culture of art and architecture of Paris and France.

This program is part of the strong collaboration between École Polytechnique and Kyung Hee University and aims to motivate its students to apply to the X KHU dual mater program. Since its inception in 2007, the X/KHU Summer Camp has hosted 405 bachelor students, 60 master students, as part of the X/KHU dual master program, and 21 PhD students.

"As head of this exchange, I would like to thank the entire School and its staff for their commitment, which is always efficient and fundamental for its success." said Yvan Bonnassieux, Professor and Deputy Manager of the LPICM.
